Chincoteague Pony
The Chincoteague Pony is a small horse breed native to Chincoteague Island in Virginia, USA. Known for their hardy nature, these ponies typically stand between 12 to 14.2 hands high. They have a variety of coat colors, including pinto, bay, and chestnut, and are well-adapted to the island's environment.
These ponies are believed to be descendants of horses brought to the island by early settlers. Each year, the Chincoteague Pony Swim takes place, where some ponies swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island as part of a round-up event. This tradition helps manage the pony population and raises funds for their care.
