Chimurenga
Chimurenga is a Shona word meaning "struggle" or "revolution," often associated with the fight for independence in Zimbabwe. It specifically refers to the armed resistance against colonial rule and the fight for liberation from British control during the 1960s and 1970s. The term is closely linked to the Zimbabwean War of Liberation, which ultimately led to the country's independence in 1980.
The Chimurenga movement was characterized by various political and military strategies employed by groups like the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU). These organizations aimed to unite the people against oppression and promote social justice, leading to significant changes in the political landscape of Zimbabwe.
