Chilperic I
Chilperic I was a Merovingian king who ruled over the Frankish kingdom from 561 to 584 AD. He was the son of Chlothar I and became king after the division of the Frankish realm among his brothers. Chilperic's reign was marked by conflicts with his siblings and internal strife within the kingdom.
Chilperic I is known for his controversial marriage to Fredegund, a former servant, which led to political intrigue and violence. His rule also saw the continuation of the Merovingian tradition of weak central authority, with local nobles gaining significant power. Chilperic was eventually assassinated, leading to further instability in the region.
