Chiggers
Chiggers are tiny, red larvae of certain mites found in grassy or wooded areas. They are often most active in warm, humid weather and can attach to humans or animals when they brush against vegetation. Chiggers do not burrow into the skin but instead inject saliva that breaks down skin cells, which they then consume.
The bites from chiggers can cause intense itching and discomfort, typically appearing as small, red welts. While they do not transmit diseases, scratching the bites can lead to secondary infections. To prevent chigger bites, wearing protective clothing and using insect repellent is recommended.
