Chesapeake Lightship
The Chesapeake Lightship is a historic floating lighthouse located in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. It was built in 1930 and served as a navigational aid for ships entering the bay until it was decommissioned in 1985. The lightship was designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and was equipped with a powerful light to guide vessels safely.
Today, the Chesapeake Lightship is preserved as a museum ship and is part of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland. Visitors can explore its decks and learn about its history and the important role lightships played in maritime navigation before the advent of modern lighthouses.
