Chemical Communication
Chemical communication refers to the process by which organisms send and receive signals through chemical substances. These signals, often called pheromones, can influence behavior, reproduction, and social interactions among individuals of the same species. For example, ants use pheromones to mark trails to food sources, guiding other ants to the location.
In addition to ants, many other animals, including mammals and insects, rely on chemical communication. Plants also engage in this form of communication, releasing volatile organic compounds to attract pollinators or warn neighboring plants of herbivore attacks. This intricate system plays a crucial role in the survival and interaction of various species.
