Check Processing
Check processing is the method by which banks and financial institutions handle checks that are deposited or cashed. When a check is written, it contains information about the payer and payee, as well as the amount. Once the check is presented for payment, the bank verifies the details and ensures that the payer has sufficient funds in their account.
After verification, the bank transfers the funds from the payer's account to the payee's account. This process may involve several steps, including clearing, where the check is sent to the payer's bank for approval. The entire process typically takes a few business days to complete.
