Charles Kay Ogden
Charles Kay Ogden was an English philosopher, linguist, and psychologist, born on January 1, 1889. He is best known for developing the Basic English language system, which aimed to simplify English by reducing its vocabulary to just 850 essential words. This system was designed to make English more accessible for non-native speakers and to facilitate international communication.
In addition to his work on Basic English, Ogden co-authored the influential book The Meaning of Meaning with Ivor Armstrong Richards in 1923. This work explored the relationship between language, thought, and communication, significantly impacting the fields of linguistics and semiotics. Ogden's contributions continue to be recognized in language studies today.
