Charles FitzWilliam, 1st Earl of Southampton
Charles FitzWilliam, 1st Earl of Southampton (c. 1580–1624), was an English nobleman and politician. He was born into a prominent family and became a significant figure in the court of King James I. FitzWilliam served as a Member of Parliament and held various positions, including the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.
In 1620, he was granted the title of Earl of Southampton, which elevated his status among the English nobility. FitzWilliam was known for his involvement in the political affairs of his time and his support for the Virginia Company, which aimed to establish colonies in North America.
