Charles Dawson
Charles Dawson was an English archaeologist and fossil collector, best known for his role in the discovery of the so-called Piltdown Man in 1912. This find was initially celebrated as a significant link between apes and humans, as it appeared to combine human-like and ape-like features.
However, the authenticity of the Piltdown Man was later challenged, leading to extensive investigations. In 1953, it was revealed that the fossils were a hoax, consisting of a combination of human and orangutan remains. This scandal significantly impacted the field of paleoanthropology and raised questions about scientific integrity.
