Cestus
The Cestus was an ancient boxing glove used in combat sports, particularly in ancient Greece and Rome. Made from leather, it was often padded or reinforced with materials like metal or lead to increase its effectiveness in fights. The Cestus was primarily used in the sport of boxing, known as pankration, which combined elements of wrestling and striking.
In addition to its use in sports, the Cestus also had a role in warfare, as soldiers sometimes wore similar protective gear in battle. The design of the Cestus evolved over time, reflecting changes in fighting techniques and the cultural significance of boxing in ancient societies.
