Cervus canadensis
Cervus canadensis, commonly known as the elk, is a large species of deer native to North America and parts of Asia. They are characterized by their impressive antlers, which are shed and regrown annually. Elk typically inhabit forests, grasslands, and mountainous regions, where they graze on a variety of vegetation.
These animals are social creatures, often found in herds, especially during the mating season, known as the rut. Elk are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and bark. Their populations are managed in many areas to maintain ecological balance and support recreational hunting.
