Catherine McAuley
Catherine McAuley was an Irish nun and the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, a religious congregation established in 1831. Born on September 29, 1778, in Dublin, Ireland, she dedicated her life to serving the poor, particularly women and children. Her work focused on education, healthcare, and social services, which laid the foundation for the congregation's mission.
McAuley opened the first Mercy convent in Baggot Street, Dublin, where she provided shelter and education for those in need. Her legacy continues today, as the Sisters of Mercy operate schools, hospitals, and various charitable organizations worldwide, promoting social justice and compassion.
