Cathal Brugha was an Irish revolutionary leader born on July 18, 1874, in Dublin. He played a significant role in the Easter Rising of 1916, a pivotal event in Ireland's struggle for independence from British rule. Brugha was known for his strong commitment to the republican cause and his leadership within the Irish Republican Army (IRA).
After the rising, Brugha continued to be active in Irish politics and was a member of the Dáil Éireann, the Irish parliament. He served as Minister for Defence during the Irish Civil War, where he opposed the treaty that led to the partition of Ireland. Brugha died on July 7, 1922, during the civil conflict.
