Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia
Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT) is a rare genetic heart condition that causes abnormal heart rhythms, particularly during physical activity or emotional stress. It is often triggered by increased levels of catecholamines, which are hormones released during stress. This condition can lead to fainting, seizures, or even sudden cardiac arrest.
CPVT is usually inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, meaning only one copy of the mutated gene from a parent can cause the disorder. Diagnosis typically involves genetic testing and exercise stress tests. Treatment may include medications like beta-blockers and lifestyle changes to avoid triggers.
