Catechesis
Catechesis is the process of religious instruction and formation, primarily within the context of the Christian faith. It aims to educate individuals, especially children and new believers, about the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Bible, and the core beliefs of the Church. This instruction often involves structured lessons, discussions, and activities that help deepen understanding and foster spiritual growth.
The term "catechesis" comes from the Greek word "katechein," meaning to instruct or teach. It is an essential part of the sacramental preparation process, particularly for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Through catechesis, individuals learn to live out their faith in daily life and become active members of their faith community.
