Carotid Arteries
The carotid arteries are major blood vessels located in the neck that supply oxygen-rich blood to the brain, neck, and face. There are two primary carotid arteries: the left and right carotid arteries, which branch off from the aorta and ascend along each side of the neck.
Each carotid artery divides into two branches: the internal carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain, and the external carotid artery, which supplies blood to the face and neck. Proper function of the carotid arteries is essential for maintaining adequate blood flow to the brain and preventing conditions like stroke.
