Carlos Gracie
Carlos Gracie was a Brazilian martial artist and one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Born on March 14, 1902, in Belém de Pará, Brazil, he was part of the famous Gracie family, known for their contributions to martial arts. Carlos began training in Judo and adapted its techniques to create a new style focused on ground fighting and submissions.
In 1925, Carlos opened the first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu academy in Rio de Janeiro, where he taught his techniques and philosophy. He emphasized the importance of self-defense and physical fitness, helping to popularize Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu worldwide. Carlos Gracie passed away on January 7, 1994, leaving a lasting legacy in martial arts.
