Caretta caretta
The Caretta caretta, commonly known as the loggerhead sea turtle, is a large marine turtle found in oceans worldwide. It is easily recognized by its large head and reddish-brown shell, which can reach up to 3 feet in length. Loggerheads primarily feed on jellyfish, crustaceans, and other marine organisms.
Loggerhead sea turtles are known for their long migrations, often traveling thousands of miles between feeding and nesting sites. They typically nest on sandy beaches, where females lay around 100 eggs in a single clutch. The species is classified as vulnerable due to threats like habitat loss, pollution, and entanglement in fishing gear.
