Cardinal Donald Wuerl
Cardinal Donald Wuerl is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, born on November 12, 1940. He served as the Archbishop of Washington, D.C. from 2006 until his retirement in 2018. Wuerl was known for his focus on education, social justice, and pastoral care within the church.
Before his time in Washington, Wuerl was the Bishop of Pittsburgh from 1988 to 2006. He played a significant role in various church initiatives and was involved in addressing issues such as clergy abuse, which later led to scrutiny during his tenure. Wuerl was elevated to the rank of cardinal in 2010.
