The Cardassian Occupation refers to a period in the fictional universe of Star Trek when the Cardassian Union invaded and controlled the planet Bajoran. This occupation lasted for about 50 years, from 1947 to 2393, during which the Cardassians exploited Bajor's resources and oppressed its people. Many Bajorans suffered from forced labor, imprisonment, and torture. The occupation ended when the Bajoran Resistance, a group of freedom fighters, successfully pushed back against the Cardassian forces. Following their withdrawal, Bajor began to rebuild and heal from the trauma of occupation, eventually becoming a key player in the United Federation of Planets.
