Cape fur seals
Cape fur seals are marine mammals found along the southwestern coast of Africa. They are known for their thick fur, which helps them stay warm in cold waters. Adult males can weigh up to 300 pounds, while females are smaller, averaging around 100 pounds. These seals are social animals, often seen lounging in large groups on rocky shores.
Cape fur seals primarily feed on fish and squid, using their keen eyesight to hunt underwater. They are agile swimmers, capable of diving to depths of over 600 feet. Their populations are monitored, as they play an important role in the marine ecosystem.
