Cape Fur Seal
The Cape Fur Seal is a marine mammal found primarily along the coasts of Southern Africa. They are known for their thick fur, which helps insulate them in cold waters. Adult males can weigh up to 300 kilograms, while females are smaller, averaging around 50 kilograms. These seals are social animals, often seen in large colonies on rocky shores and beaches.
Cape Fur Seals primarily feed on fish and squid, using their keen eyesight and agility to hunt underwater. They are excellent swimmers, capable of diving to depths of over 200 meters. Their population is currently stable, but they face threats from fishing activities and habitat loss.
