Canyons of the Ancients
The Canyons of the Ancients is a protected area located in southwestern Colorado, known for its rich archaeological significance. It encompasses over 32,000 acres and features numerous ancient sites, including cliff dwellings and rock art created by the Ancestral Puebloans.
This area is home to one of the highest concentrations of archaeological sites in the United States, with more than 6,000 recorded sites. Visitors can explore the stunning landscapes, which include deep canyons, mesas, and unique rock formations, while learning about the history and culture of the indigenous peoples who once inhabited the region.
