Cantering
Cantering is a smooth, three-beat gait commonly used in horseback riding. It is faster than a trot but slower than a gallop, making it a comfortable pace for both horse and rider. In this gait, one hind leg strikes the ground first, followed by the opposite hind leg and the diagonal front leg, with the other front leg coming down last.
This gait is often used in various equestrian disciplines, including dressage, show jumping, and eventing. Riders can control the speed and rhythm of the canter, allowing for versatility in different riding situations. Proper training helps ensure that both horse and rider can perform this gait effectively.
