Canter (Gait)
The canter is a three-beat gait commonly used by horses. It is faster than a trot but slower than a gallop, making it a comfortable pace for both the horse and rider. In this gait, one hind leg strikes the ground first, followed by the opposite hind leg and the diagonal front leg, with the remaining front leg hitting the ground last.
The canter is often used in various equestrian disciplines, including dressage, show jumping, and eventing. Riders typically use specific cues to initiate and control the canter, allowing for smooth transitions and maintaining balance throughout the movement.
