Cannabinoid Receptors
Cannabinoid receptors are specialized proteins found in the body that interact with compounds from the cannabis plant, as well as naturally occurring substances called endocannabinoids. The two main types of cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the brain and central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are mainly found in the immune system and peripheral tissues.
These receptors play a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes, including pain, mood, appetite, and immune response. When cannabinoids bind to these receptors, they can influence neurotransmitter release and cellular activity, leading to a range of effects on the body and mind.
