Camerata Fiorentina
Camerata Fiorentina, also known as the Florentine Camerata, was a group of Italian musicians, poets, and intellectuals active in the late 16th century. They met in Florence, Italy, and aimed to revive the ancient Greek drama by creating a new form of musical theater. This group is credited with the development of opera, which combined music, drama, and staging.
The Camerata's most notable member was Giulio Caccini, a composer and singer who contributed significantly to early opera. Their discussions and experiments led to the creation of the first operas, including Dafne, composed by Jacopo Peri. The Camerata Fiorentina's influence laid the groundwork for the evolution of Western classical music.
