Calouste Gulbenkian
Calouste Gulbenkian was an Armenian businessman and philanthropist, born on March 23, 1869, in Istanbul, Turkey. He is best known for founding the Gulbenkian Foundation, which supports arts, education, and social welfare projects worldwide. Gulbenkian made his fortune in the oil industry, particularly through his involvement in the Turkish Petroleum Company.
Gulbenkian moved to Portugal in 1942, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a significant art collector, and his collection is now housed in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. He passed away on July 20, 1955, leaving a lasting legacy through his philanthropic efforts.
