Calliphoridae
Calliphoridae, commonly known as blow flies, are a family of flies characterized by their metallic coloration, often appearing in shades of blue or green. They are typically found in various habitats, including urban areas, forests, and fields. These flies are known for their role in the decomposition process, as they are attracted to decaying organic matter, where they lay their eggs.
The larvae, or maggots, of Calliphoridae feed on decomposing material, helping to break it down and recycle nutrients back into the ecosystem. Some species are also important in forensic science, as their life cycles can provide valuable information about the time of death in criminal investigations.
