Caledonian Canal
The Caledonian Canal is a man-made waterway in Scotland that connects Loch Ness to Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. It stretches approximately 60 miles (97 kilometers) through the Scottish Highlands, providing a navigable route for boats and ships. The canal was completed in the early 19th century and was designed to facilitate trade and transportation between the east and west coasts of Scotland.
The canal features a series of locks, including the famous Neptune's Staircase, which is a flight of eight locks that raises boats over 64 feet (20 meters). Today, the Caledonian Canal is popular for recreational boating, fishing, and scenic walks, attracting tourists and nature enthusiasts alike.
