C/2020 F3, also known as Comet NEOWISE, is a long-period comet that was discovered on March 27, 2020, by the NEOWISE space telescope. It became visible to the naked eye in July 2020, captivating skywatchers around the world with its bright tail and distinctive appearance.
The comet made its closest approach to the Sun on July 3, 2020, and passed near the Earth on July 23, 2020. Its orbit is highly elliptical, taking it far beyond the outer planets, and it is estimated to return to the inner solar system in about 6,800 years.
