Burke and Wills expedition
The Burke and Wills expedition was an Australian exploration mission that took place in 1860-1861. Led by Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills, the goal was to traverse Australia from Melbourne in the south to the northern coast at Carpentaria. The expedition aimed to explore uncharted territories and establish a north-south route.
The journey faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather, food shortages, and difficult terrain. Despite reaching the northern coast, the expedition ultimately ended in tragedy, with Burke and Wills dying on the return journey. Their story highlighted the risks of exploration and the need for better planning in future expeditions.
