Bump Keying
Bump keying is a lock-picking technique that involves using a specially cut key, known as a bump key, to open pin tumbler locks. The bump key is designed to fit into the lock and, when struck with a tool, causes the pins inside the lock to jump, allowing the lock to turn and open.
This method is often discussed in the context of home security because it can be used to bypass standard locks quickly. While it is a legitimate technique used by locksmiths for non-destructive entry, it also raises concerns about the vulnerability of many common locks to unauthorized access.
