Bullous Pemphigoid
Bullous Pemphigoid is a rare autoimmune skin disorder that primarily affects older adults. It is characterized by large, fluid-filled blisters that form on the skin, often causing itching and discomfort. The blisters typically appear on areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and armpits.
The condition occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the proteins that help anchor the skin layers together. This leads to the separation of the skin layers and the formation of blisters. Treatment usually involves medications to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune response, helping to manage symptoms and promote healing.
