Buginese script
The Buginese script is a writing system used by the Buginese people of Indonesia, primarily on the island of Sulawesi. It is an abugida, meaning each character represents a consonant with an inherent vowel sound. The script has 23 basic characters and is written from left to right.
Originally derived from the Pallava script, the Buginese script has been used for centuries to write the Buginese language and other local languages. Although its use declined with the introduction of the Latin alphabet, efforts are being made to revive and preserve this unique cultural heritage.
