Bubo scandiacus
Bubo scandiacus, commonly known as the snowy owl, is a large, white owl native to the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. It is easily recognizable due to its striking white plumage, which is often marked with dark spots. Snowy owls are well-adapted to cold environments, with thick feathers that provide insulation and large, powerful wings for gliding over vast snowy landscapes.
These owls primarily hunt small mammals, particularly lemmings, and are known for their exceptional vision and hearing. During the breeding season, they build nests on the ground, often in tundra areas. Snowy owls are also known for their migratory behavior, moving southward in search of food during harsh winters.
