Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) is a labor union representing locomotive engineers and other railway workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1863, it aims to advocate for the rights and working conditions of its members, ensuring fair wages, safety standards, and job security. The BLE has played a significant role in the history of labor movements within the railway industry.
In 2004, the BLE merged with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to form the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET). This merger expanded the union's influence and resources, allowing it to better serve its members. The BLET continues to negotiate contracts and provide support for engineers and trainmen across North America.
