Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model
Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model is a framework that explains how different environmental systems influence human development. It consists of five layers: the microsystem, which includes immediate environments like family and school; the mesosystem, which connects different microsystems; the exosystem, which involves broader social systems that indirectly affect individuals; the macrosystem, which encompasses cultural values and laws; and the chronosystem, which considers the dimension of time and life transitions.
This model emphasizes that development is not just influenced by individual factors but also by the complex interactions between various systems. By understanding these layers, researchers and practitioners can better address the needs of individuals within their unique contexts, recognizing that changes in one layer can impact others.
