Bronchodilation
Bronchodilation is the process by which the air passages in the lungs widen, allowing for easier airflow. This occurs when the muscles surrounding the airways relax, reducing resistance and improving breathing. It is an important mechanism for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Medications known as bronchodilators are often used to induce bronchodilation. These drugs can be delivered through inhalers or nebulizers and work by targeting specific receptors in the lungs. By promoting bronchodilation, these treatments help alleviate symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
