Breakthrough Starshot
Breakthrough Starshot is an initiative aimed at exploring the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, using tiny, light-powered spacecraft called StarChips. These spacecraft would be propelled by powerful ground-based lasers, allowing them to travel at a significant fraction of the speed of light, potentially reaching their destination in just over 20 years.
The project is part of the larger Breakthrough Initiatives, which seeks to advance scientific research and exploration. By sending these small probes, scientists hope to gather valuable data about exoplanets and the conditions for life beyond our solar system, expanding our understanding of the universe.
