Brazilian three-banded armadillo
The Brazilian three-banded armadillo, known scientifically as Tolypeutes tricinctus, is a small mammal native to the grasslands and forests of Brazil. It is unique for its ability to roll into a ball when threatened, using its hard shell for protection. This species has three movable bands on its back, which allow it to curl up tightly.
These armadillos primarily feed on insects, especially ants and termites. They have a keen sense of smell, which helps them locate food underground. The Brazilian three-banded armadillo is currently classified as vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting pressures.
