Bow Bells
"Bow Bells" refers to the bells of St. Mary-le-Bow, a church located in the Bow area of London. These bells are famous for their historical significance and are often associated with the phrase "Cockney." According to tradition, to be considered a true Cockney, one must be born within the sound of these bells.
The church itself dates back to the 11th century and has undergone several reconstructions, particularly after the Great Fire of London in 1666 and during World War II. The current tower, completed in 1961, houses the bells, which continue to play a role in the cultural identity of the East End of London.
