Borneo Elephant
The Borneo elephant, also known as the Bornean pygmy elephant, is a subspecies of the Asian elephant found primarily in the forests of Borneo. These elephants are smaller than their mainland relatives, with males typically standing about 2.5 meters tall at the shoulder. They have distinctive features, including larger ears and a longer tail, which help them adapt to their humid rainforest habitat.
Borneo elephants play a crucial role in their ecosystem by dispersing seeds and maintaining the health of the forest. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on a variety of plants, fruits, and bark. Unfortunately, their population is threatened due to habitat loss and poaching, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
