Bornean orangutan
The Bornean orangutan is a large primate native to the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is known for its long arms, reddish-brown fur, and distinctive facial features. Bornean orangutans are primarily arboreal, spending most of their lives in trees, where they build nests for sleeping and foraging for food, mainly fruits and leaves.
These orangutans are critically endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation and illegal wildlife trade. They play a vital role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds, which promotes forest regeneration. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining habitats and ensure their survival.
