Book of Negroes
The "Book of Negroes" is a historical document created during the American Revolutionary War. It records the names of Black Loyalists—enslaved people who escaped to British lines seeking freedom. The book served as a means to document their claims for resettlement in Nova Scotia and Sierra Leone.
The document is also the title of a novel by Lawrence Hill, which tells the fictional story of Aminata Diallo, a woman who is captured and sold into slavery. The narrative explores her journey from Africa to America and her eventual fight for freedom, highlighting the struggles faced by Black individuals during that era.
