Bombing of London
The Bombing of London, also known as the Blitz, occurred during World War II from September 1940 to May 1941. The German air force, or Luftwaffe, targeted London and other British cities in an effort to weaken British morale and disrupt the war effort. The attacks involved heavy bombing raids, causing significant destruction and loss of life.
During the Blitz, Londoners faced nightly air raids, leading to the establishment of air raid shelters and blackouts. Despite the devastation, the resilience of the population was notable, as many continued their daily lives and contributed to the war effort. The bombing ultimately failed to achieve its strategic goals.
