Bok globules
Bok globules are small, dense clouds of gas and dust in space that can lead to the formation of new stars. They are typically a few light-years across and are often found in regions of star formation. Their high density allows them to collapse under their own gravity, which can trigger the birth of stars within them.
These globules were first identified by the astronomer Bart J. Bok in the 1940s. They are important for understanding the processes of star formation and the lifecycle of interstellar matter. Observations of Bok globules help astronomers learn more about the conditions necessary for stars to form.
