Boeing X-51 Waverider
The Boeing X-51 Waverider is an experimental hypersonic aircraft designed to test advanced flight technologies. It is powered by a scramjet engine, which allows it to travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. The X-51 aims to explore the potential for hypersonic flight in military and civilian applications.
Developed by Boeing in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force and DARPA, the X-51 has conducted several test flights since its first successful flight in 2010. These tests help researchers understand the challenges of hypersonic travel, including thermal management and aerodynamic stability.
