Bodhicitta
Bodhicitta is a key concept in Mahayana Buddhism that refers to the compassionate intention to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. It embodies the aspiration to develop wisdom and compassion, enabling individuals to help others overcome suffering and ignorance.
There are two main types of Bodhicitta: relative and absolute. Relative Bodhicitta focuses on the compassionate wish to help others, while absolute Bodhicitta emphasizes the understanding of emptiness and the interconnectedness of all beings. Cultivating Bodhicitta is essential for those on the path to becoming a Bodhisattva, a being dedicated to achieving enlightenment for the sake of others.
